Today in class, after our SSR block, students responded to the following in support of conversations we'll be having throughout the next week or so (also see HW below):
1) Write about a time when you faced something difficult or a loss.
2) Is it better to face fear, loss, and difficult topics or avoid them? Why or why not?
Is this different for personal vs. public issues?
3) Jot down your understanding of September 11th, 2001.
4) Should September 11th be discussed/taught in school?
Every year?
Why or why not?
5) What IS the purpose of school? (what do you perceive or think the purpose of school is?)
-What SHOULD the purpose of school be? (is your view on what the purpose of school is different from what you think the purpose should be?)
HW:
Interview someone at home: What is their recollection/feelings/experience with September 11th, 2001?
Please record a few notes from your conversation. You do not need to write down word-for-word what this person says, some bullet points or a summary will suffice.
