Field Studies Tomorrow + Math Tutors Wanted

Hi all,

Remember that Ruby Lake and Oak Island Field Study groups will be out on-site tomorrow from 9 to 12. Dress appropriately and bring water (all groups will be back for lunch)

Parents,

We are in great need of Math helpers in the upper grades! Please let us know if you'd be available, if even for just one day a month. You do not need to be a math expert, we'll provide materials, and you'd be working with one to three or four students in a small group. These small group or one-to-one assistance sessions do wonders for our student's confidence and success in math--please help if you can!!!

Have a great rest of the week!
Mr. Radich

Classroom News and Upcoming Events 10/18

Good afternoon!
We spent this week missing our 6th graders, who I'm sure had a blast at Outdoor School!
In 7th and 8th Grade we're wrapping up our first unit on Early Humans and Ancient Civilizations. Students have been working in small groups on Human "Mechanical" Diorama project in which they act as parts of an informational diorama about four empires from Mesopotamia (think narrated wax museum, but the students are the figures). The empires we're looking at are the Akkadian, Babylonian, Assyrian, and Neo-Babylonian. Students are highlighting achievements, and their significance, of these various empires in their presentations (which we'll film and put up online for your viewing pleasure next week!).
If you have an 8th grader, I encourage you to ask them about their recent Art classes and project. Ms. Shelly has built a really neat curriculum for them that ties-in perfectly with Ms. Ferris' Media Unit and the students are making really amazing pieces!
Mark your calendars:
-- Wednesday, October 23rd -- Ruby Lake Field Study group site visit from 9 -12
-- Thursday, October 24th -- 7th Grade field trip to Sauvie Island Center with Ms. Ferris for Foods class (if you'd like to join, please email Ms. Ferris)
-- Tuesday, October 29th -- 6th/7th/8th Grade Pumpkin Patch field trip. Chaperones wanted, contact your student's Homeroom teacher if interest.

-- Saturday, November 2nd -- SIA First Annual Harvest Festival 12PM to 4PM details and fliers coming next week.

Volunteers:
We'd still love extra assistance with Math on Tuesdays through Fridays from 8:40 to 9:35. No Math expertise needed, we'll provide materials, and you'd be working with small groups or individual tutoring. Contact Aly, Brittany, or I if interested.
Thanks for all you do and your awesome students!
Have a great weekend,
Matt

One Month Down: Please Make Sure You're Caught Up

Hello all,

We're one month in and having a great year so far! Just to be sure that we're all successful from the start, please be sure that you have the following items complete (I'm still missing a few assignments from some folks).

Parents,

Please engage your student in discussion about their work thus far this year.
