Classroom News January
Hello,
We're off to a great start in the new year as we wind down our first semester. All grades will be wrapping up current units of study just in time for the semester break and then moving into new content in February!
6th Grade:
We're currently in the middle of our Ancient Egypt unit. We've examined social structure of ancient Egyptian civilization, daily life of early Egyptians, some famous pharaohs and their accomplishments, and are currently making our own sarcophagi to house some mummification experiments (with proper procedure and some luck, my room won't smell like rotten apples!).
7th Grade:
7th Grade spends the middle chunk of the year in a Geography and Climate unit, examining various locations and case studies to learn and practice social studies content themes. Currently, we're looking at the Nile River region of Africa, paying attention to the varied geography, human adaptations to that geography and climate, and how women micro-entrepreneurs are helping change their communities in many African countries.
8th Grade:
8th Graders are wrapping up our Intro to the Constitution unit where we have a mock Constitutional Convention, learn the purpose and duties of the three branches of government, and examine the checks and balances embedded in this system. Up next, we take a closer look at the Bill of Rights and become familiar with how interpret amendments and laws as we prepare for our upcoming Mock Trial unit!
Math:
In Math, 8th graders are working on solving systems of equations using multiple algebraic methods. As winter progresses, we'll continue to practice more challenging word problems, practicing our interpretation and perseverance when faced with challenging math problems.
Be sure to scroll through the blog to see photos, updates, and daily agendas.
Best,
Mr. Radich
