6th Grade Journal Entry: Daily Life in Tenochtitlan

Use your notes and reading to write a brief journal entry based on your given role. Follow these guidelines:

Tell who you are: your Aztec name, your job or family role, and your social class.

Focus on several parts of daily life in Tenochtitlan (the ones that correspond to the reading: marriage, family life, food, markets, religion, or recreation). Include important information from your reading notes.

Mention a setting, such as the market, ball court, or kitchen, in each entry.

8th Grade: Sample Arguable Questions (from peers)

8th Grade Argument Paper Example Questions/Topics (will update as students add their topic)

  • Should child soldiers be considered victims or perpetrators?
  • Do shows like "16 and Pregnant" encourage or discourage teen pregnancy?
  • Is homework beneficial? What are the benefits of homework?
  • Should school funding be tied to standardized tests?
  • Is animal testing ethical?
  • Should gender disorder be considered a medical diagnosis?
  • Does having gender-specific bathrooms infringe on constitutional rights? Does having gender-neutral bathrooms infringe on constitutional rights?
  • Should media face consequence for body shaming?
  • Do shows like "13 Reasons" de-stigmatize mental health issues or sensationalize them?
  • Should students have to have a minimum GPA to play sports?
  • Does the way women are portrayed in media negatively impact self-esteem?
  • Should gay men be able to donate blood to blood banks?

***Remember, for folks who want to spend less time with initial research, I have lots of resources ready for you on the topic of amnesty for child soldiers. If the topic of child soldiers does not interest you, or is too intense, please feel free to choose another topic. However, the topic needs to be approved by me and be arguable (have two sides).

Good luck!

Weekend Math HW

8th Grade:

Please remember to complete 4.3 #s1-14 (finding several missing data pieces based on key information. We practiced this in class, and the book provides good examples in this lesson--so if you get stuck, flip back to the examples)

Also, some did not finish 4.2 #s 1-24 (finding one missing data piece when given the mean)

Please make sure BOTH are complete for Monday. Bring any questions you have and we'll go over it in class.

Have a great weekend,
Mr. Radich

8th Grade Anchor Text: Position Paper Simulated-Violence Games and Teens

Hi 8th Graders,

In case you misplaced your article, here's a link to the anchor text we'll be basing our first go at a position paper rough draft on. Remember, you're going to argue whether role-playing games with simulated violence are perilous or diverting for kids. You get to define perilous or diverting; some examples we talked about in class are:
perilous: dangerous or harmful (mentally? physically? morally?)
diverting: distracting, entertaining, teaches valuable lessons

Come tomorrow with rough bullet-point "outline" -- we'll work on organizing and refining as a part of this unit, so just your ideas for tomorrow is great!
