Happy sunny afternoon families!
This week all
Social Studies classes completed final drafts of their choice research
papers. I have to commend our students, they really demonstrated their
growth and skill in writing and researching with this project--the final
products are quite impressive! In fact, I must share a quick proud
moment I had yesterday evening regarding this project: I was grading
some of the papers at a coffee shop and ran into a colleague who teaches
Freshman Language Arts at a Portland area high school. After reading
over a few of the papers he complimented the strong writing of our
students and said that the papers he read were on-par or above the
writing that his freshman produce--so cool! (I'll put some excerpts from
a few papers up on the blog this weekend for all to see!).
On Monday, 6th graders in Gardens and Woodshop helped
celebrate Earth Day by volunteering in shifts to help Ms. Fisher's 4th
grade class prepare and install a new gravel path for their native
species habitat area. It was great for the students to have an
opportunity to interact with the 4th graders and assist in making our
school look great! As a class, we also broke into small groups and
picked up litter from the school grounds as well as near the grange and
in the forest. (See pictures of these Earth Day projects on the blog: teachermr.blogspot.com).
Big thanks to Ms. Force for organizing our 6th-8th grade viewing of the film Bully
at Scappoose High School on Tuesday. The film was very powerful and our
students showed great maturity both during the viewing and in our
post-screening reflection writing back at school. I strongly encourage
you to talk to your student about their experience viewing this poignant
film.
