Social Studies Update

Hi all,

Here's a brief update on what's been happening and where we're going in Social Studies:

6th Grade:

Our River Narrative projects are mostly wrapped up, just taking care of loose end here and there. We also just started our Indigenous Peoples of Central and South America unit, this will have us exploring the past (and present) of Mayan, Inca, and Aztec cultures. This unit builds on the geography concepts we've been using all year and continues to delve deeper into culture and society. At the end of the year, our final unit will focus on Indigenous Resistance; we'll examine how these three cultures interacted with colonizers as well as look specifically at colonization and resistance movements in Australia in the 20th century.

7th and 8th Grade:

We've just wrapped up study of Ancient Greece, will now examine the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, and then study the legacy of these early powerful civilizations on Medieval Europe and end the year with a study of the Renaissance. A heads up that Current Event weekly assignments and speeches will soon be coming to an end so that students can focus on a larger writing assignment as a capstone for their year in Social Studies--more on this soon!

Thanks,
Mr. Radich
