Classroom News May 6 - May 10

Happy end of this amazingly sunny week!

First, big thank you to Ms. Ferris for organizing yesterday's awesome field trip to Powell's and Forest Park. Additional thanks to our amazing chaperones--we couldn't do these fantastic trips without you! Students had a great time perusing the best book store on the planet as well as put in some hard work taking out invasive ivy at Forest Park. Good times!

All Social Studies classes spent a little time this week working on a "mini-documentary" of sorts that will highlight their choice research topic in a 1 to 3 minute iMovie, EduCreation, or StopMotion film to be on display via QR code at our celebration of learning evening on May 23rd. Students have shown real professionalism and camaraderie with iPad use and are on-task and more than willing to help classmates navigate this new learning tool and build strong technological literacy skills. Additionally, 6th graders focused on background for our indigenous resistance case-study of the native peoples of the Chiapas region of Mexico. Next week, we'll bring in some economics as we learn broadly about NAFTA and its affect on the Chiapas region. The 7th and 8th graders continued our study of the Civil War, with particular attention paid to the year and half of the war leading up to the Emancipation Proclamation, analyzing excerpts from the Proclamation, and it's immediate effects.

Reminders for All:

Be sure to check out Ms. Brittany's, Ms. Ferris', and my blogs for details about donation requests for our auction baskets. A reminder that Ms. Ferris and I switched homerooms for the basket procurement, so if you're an 8th grade family please reference my blog, and 7th grade families should reference Ms. Ferris' blog. Final dance of the year is next Thursday after school. Please arrange transportation home from the dance which ends at 5:15. If interested in chaperoning, contact Ms. Brittany.

Annual Benefit Auction is coming up on May 18th. Be sure to come and bid on the awesome class projects--6th, 7th, and 8th graders have been working hard on some amazing projects that they're really proud of. Let the bidding begin!

A general behavior reminder for all: with the recent sun and excitement for the end of the year, we've had a bit of a spike in out-of-character behavior issues in all grades. Please take a moment to chat with your student about finishing the year strong with respect and success.

Thank you all for your support and amazing students! Have a fantastic weekend!!!

Best,
Mr. Radich
