Challenge Assignment Update

Hello all,

I've added a few more extension assignments to the the challenge/enrichment section. Here they are:

1973 Chile Research and Historical Empathy Creative Writing: Using the Two Voices: I am a Woman poem excerpt as a starting point, do some research on the tumultuous events that happened in Chile in 1973. Using the background information that you find and some creativity, finish the poem in a way that makes sense with historical events. What happens to each woman? Their families? Their social class? No right or wrong way to do this.

Two Voices Original Poem: Write an original two voices poem. This can be based on personal experience, based on an historical event or theme, or completely fictional. Remember to consider what story you're going to tell and to have two distinct voices/perspectives telling the story.

Revolutionary War Comparison Revolution: Compare one aspect of contemporary (current) revolutions happening in the Middle East and North Africa to the American Revolution. Here are some potential ideas for this extension:
  • Explore the current process of Constitution writing happening in Egypt and compare it to the process of writing the US Constitution. Think about the contentious issues we discussed in our classroom Constitutional Convention regarding who should be involved in writing the Constitution and whose rights it had in mind--then find out what types of issues are most important to Egyptians and who is represented (or not represented) in their Constitutional writing process. *Various countries in this region are currently writing and amending their Constitutions, feel free to explore any country, not just Egypt.
  • Explore the causes of the Syrian Uprising. How are the causes that led to the Syrian uprising different or the same as the issues we learned about. Think about using your Road to Revolution Timeline for comparison.
  • Compare and Contrast types of Governments: Chose one (ore more!) countries considered part of the Arab Spring and compare what government structure they had before their revolution and what type of system they've put into place after. How are these types of government similar or different from the Colonies own experience with the tyranny of British rule?
Hope one of these options sparks your interest! Don't forget that there are many more options under the "challenge assignments" page to the right.

Thanks,
Mr. Radich
